People always say that First impression is the last impression, and to be honest I used to believe that first impression is the last one but Life proved me wrong.
Before pointing out others; I think first we need to examine ourselves.
There is a book named “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey it says that “Seeing is being“
This means that what you are; will eventually show up, not in the first meeting, but surely later on. So what I actually am, may be not visible to others but my conscience knows it very well. At the end of the day if I’ll not change according to the version I want to be, then surely world will come to know about it.
This is my opinion: that “People who keep changing themselves to impress others end up giving a false first impression.” Because just like a chameleon they keep changing their colors( their behavior and opinion depends upon the situation).
These kinds of people can never have a principled life and stable values that’s why having trust on them is not easy.
Now it’s Story Time
It’s a story about the Trap of First impressions.
A girl was soon going to get married, so everyone in her family told her how to behave and showcase her qualities to the groom’s family. She exactly did what her elders told her, trying to impress everyone. But what she portrayed was not her real self. It was just a version of her ideal self, the one she wanted to be one day or what society calls worthy of admiration.
The thing worth noticing is that she was never a bad person in herself, but fitting into the role she had portrayed was not easy.
And that’s exactly how first impressions go wrong, when someone changes themselves just to impress, the person others meet first is not the person they will live with later.
The boy she was going to get married and his family thought she was exactly what she said and showed, so they said yes to the girl.
Finally, they got married, but after some time her actions started contradicting her previous words. That’s why no one is able to adjust or understand how to behave and make things smooth.
The Girl was trying but she still had a long journey ahead to become the version of herself they expected. The boy’s side felt deceived by them, so eventually the blame game started, and everyone began pointing out each other’s faults while hiding their own shortcomings.
The lesson is simple. Be yourself from the very first meeting. It may feel risky, but a real impression, even an imperfect one, is better than a perfect one that cannot last. The right people will accept you as you are, and the wrong ones will leave early instead of feeling deceived later.
“No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside.
We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or by emotional appeal.”
– Marilyn Ferguson
